Alternative Links and Sites to Find Jobs:
This is a very helpful tool in the job search because it allows you to set up search agents and alerts for specific types of jobs. Results are compiled from job boards, corporate sites, professional associations and other sites, and results are emailed to you directly.
Similar to Indeed.com, but with more job search tips and links.
Also a social networking site, but there is a jobs section you can access, and many employers post jobs exclusively on LinkedIn. Be sure you've set up a solid profile if you apply through the site. Employers often note that they prefer individuals with recommendations.
Corporate Alumni Sites Do a Google search to see if any of your previous employers have an alumni group. Many large firms have alumni sites, and some small ones too.
University Alumni Sites and Links Check on the main school site, but also check social networking sites. For instance, Linked In has groups for many universities and colleges.
Social Networking and People Research Links:
www.linkedin.com Grown -up online social networkin site where you can post your bio, search profiles of others with similar interests, and join groups.
www.jigsaw.com Site where you can search for people at specific companies, enter contacts, and find contact info for others. You can "barter" contacts and get credits for adding people to the network.
www.spoke.com Interesting tool to find people in specific roles at target companies. Gives you names, titles, the phone number to the corporate HQ, and the comapny email protocol.
www.zoominfo.com Allows you to look people up by name or find people at a specific company, see titles of others, see competitor fims. Gives you data on how the information was complied, how many references were used, and what they were.
www.muckety.com Interesting site where you can plug in a person's name and see how they are connected to others. Works best for well-known, highly connected people.
Career Resources: Tests and Tools
http://www.ransdellassociates.com/ Online personality and career testing including ther Myers Briggs Type Indicator (MBTI) and the Strong. Links to related information.
www.jist.org Books, tools, interest and aptitude tests, and career guides. Many resources are free or at minimal cost. Great resource for students and teachers.
